Pike perch street fishing

Pike perch street fishing

Sudak and jig are practically synonymous words. At the mention of jig fishing for zander immediately comes to mind. Indeed, jig fishing is one of the most prey types of fishing, and in some places the only possible way.

Dam and embankments

In St. Petersburg, directly in the city and on the dam, this is one of the most popular types of fishing. And indeed, driving along the embankments, at any time of the day you can meet fishermen engaged in such fishing. Pike perch a lot. This is not to say that the size is trophy – most often it is up to a kilogram, but decent specimens sometimes come across.

Now we are talking about fishing without a boat. Many of my friends catch almost every day, if the weather permits, and without interruption from work. And although the time of zander activity can vary, but, as usual, the best hours for successful fishing are morning and evening. Fishing from the embankments is ideal for those who do not have a car, because almost anywhere can be reached by public transport.

Spinning

Spinning for catching zander must be very sensitive. Many fishermen use spinning rods with excess dough, especially for angling. This significantly reduces the "scoop" of gear and with a weak activity of the fish leads to the fact that you can just skip the bite. Therefore, despite the fact that you have to catch jig heads up to 50 gr and more, spinning is better to use without a margin of safety, and, no doubt, it should be designed as a jig fishing rod and transmit any movement, be it a bite or hook. For fishing from the shore, spinning lengths of 2.7-3 m are suitable, since most often you have to throw it quite far.

Cord requirements

The cord does not have to be thick, and this is due to several factors. Thickness is not a guarantee that when you hook you will be able to pull out the bait. Rather, you get a problem: instead of tearing it off correctly, you risk that the cord itself may break off in an unspecified area. And there are innumerable hooks in fishing spots. At the same time, the thickness affects the bite significantly – naturally, in the direction of reduction. Therefore, it is not worth putting thicker than 0.14 mm. This diameter is enough with a margin even for large zander. And for fishing along the course, as well as everywhere, the thicker the fishing line, the more heavy the bait must be set, which reduces the effectiveness.

Installation

Another subtlety: what to use – a classic jig or a retractable leash. Both gears have their advantages. Jig is especially effective when the fish is active, and, according to my observations, larger specimens come across it. And the rest, perhaps, a branch in our conditions is preferable due to the smaller number of hooks, which is very important in the Neva, and especially the dam. This is especially true if you are fishing in places you know little. The differences in the wiring of these gears are quite substantial. If the jig or “cheburashka” is carried out with a “step”, then with the outlet the wiring is a little different: here they drag the load along the bottom using a spinning rod without jerking, periodically reeling up the cord. They pull the gear at a slow pace, sometimes you can even stop: the bait will still play during the course. This tackle is effective when the fish is inactive, and, as mentioned above, with a large number of hooks.

Landing net

If you are fishing from the embankment or from the parapet, you will definitely need a net, not a regular one, with a handle, but a special, round shape that can be plumbed down on a rope. There are practically no such products on sale, and if you do not want fish gatherings, you will have to do it yourself. However, the design is the most primitive, and in the presence of raw materials, manufacturing will not take much time.

What to catch?

Now a little about what to catch … In fact, there is no super-slaughter bait, and each fisherman has his own opinion on this matter. I believe that in this situation, you can use both vibro-tails and twisters. The most working length of the vibro-tail is 100-110 mm, for the twister – 75-100 mm. But this is my personal choice, and since now you can buy almost any bait, everyone can choose exactly what suits him. The color scheme is also very diverse: from acid to natural colors. It would be wrong to give preference to any one color, since in different situations it can peck on baits of various shades. Inflating the number of colors, of course, is also not worth it, but it makes sense to keep 4-5 proven colors in the arsenal.

Precise bait feed

It is better to choose a place for fishing based on the opinion of the “advanced”: that is, come to those places where more experienced fishermen catch. But, unfortunately, even this does not always help. The pike perch is “attached” to irregularities at the bottom – there it is necessary to look for it by making the bait. More than once it was observed that fishermen, who seem to be fishing from the same point and on the same tackle, but standing at a distance from each other and, accordingly, throwing tackle at different angles, finish fishing with completely different results. Therefore, only a thorough study of the place of fishing will give a good catch and save from unnecessary cliffs.

Proper preparation

A little advice: if you decide to go jig fishing, you should take a stock of lures with offset hooks and cargo of the required size with you. And due to the fact that our current is unstable and depends on winds, weights should be from 20 to 50 grams, and possibly more. It is best to form a small backpack with all the gear, since most often you have to catch in one place, but periodically shift.

And although zander can be caught in almost any period of open water, still June-July are the best months for catching it, so you should use good weather while it is standing.
