Pike in the "bonnet" or Pike water jungle

In the warm season, many water bodies are heavily overgrown with a water lily, cattail, horsetail and all kinds of other water plants. And the fish does not disappear, it continues to live and eat there. But catching her under such conditions is already much more difficult. However, there is a way out of any situation. And a variety of non-catching baits and montages come to the aid of a spinning player. One of the options I present to your attention is an offset offset hook.

Offset hook with loading, what is it?

We are used to standard offset hooks, with a step, for fixing in the head of the bait. But in our case, the form is not quite familiar – the absence of the very step on which the silicone is fixed. But there is a “corkscrew”, so it is screwed into the head of the bait, and then the equipment is classic. Moreover, it is possible to equip practically any type of vibro-tails, twisters and the like on this installation. “Corkscrew – screwdriver” reliably holds the silicone bait when fishing in such harsh conditions. All this construction flies well and perfectly passes dense underwater thickets, attracting the attention of pike lurking there.

Fishing conditions, where to apply?

A few words about the advisability of using this installation. Water lilies, horsetail, cattail and similar dense aquatic plants, mostly oriented vertically in water, are an excellent field for action. Windows in a continuous carpet of water lilies and water lilies themselves, islets of cattail, the border of thickets and clear water, the alternation of different species of these same plants – all these places are potential points for fishing. Not to hinder, but any kind of creeping and filamentous algae can spoil the fishing for us, this scourge will envelop not only the bait, but also the metal leash, which must be used when catching a toothy predator. This point should be taken into account to be sure to be ready to meet with your trophy.

Lures, what to catch?

Practically any vibro-tails, twisters and various silicone “creatures” with the possibility of their subsequent equipping with offset hooks are perfectly suitable for fishing in the “skipper”. However, the runner bait, originally intended to be equipped with hooks of this type, showed itself better than the rest. The body shape of the bait is preferably not too high, flattened from the sides, this is with regards to vibro-tails. The hook must have a free play margin in the body of the bait, so that when attacked by a predator it would be released from silicone without unnecessary effort. And the streamlined shape more stable passes through the thickets. “Fleshy” twisters, with wide tails, also cope with their tasks in the midst of aquatic plants. Note: it is sometimes useful to equip wide-body vibro-tails by piercing them in a barrel, and not in the back. Thus, the bait in the water, on the wiring, is oriented flat, creating additional resistance and a kind of game on pauses.

Tackle, what to catch?

But the tackle is needed more powerful, so that without hesitation to tear up the fish that bite from the grass and exclude the loss of bait on the hooks. Personally, my main tool for this kind of fishing is spinning with the top dough on average up to 35 grams, and more often up to 60 grams, with fast action. The fishing conditions force the use of such powerful gear: the bait must be carried out in the most “underwater jungle”, and the pike that have pecked in the wrong way to rip out of these thickets. Or a casting kit, a great option for harsh conditions. A multiplier reel and a powerful blank are what you need for fishing in the grass. Moreover, thick braided cords are used. The coil, respectively, also needs a powerful one. The size 4000 will be optimal, because the cord is required quite thick for such cases, I have it not thinner than 0.2 mm according to our classification. The large capacity of the spool will allow you to wind a sufficient footage of such "ropes", and the power mechanism will cope with heavy loads. Note: feeder coils fit perfectly for such purposes, which differ in the characteristics we need, the use of such coils in such conditions is fully justified. And do not forget about protecting baits from slices with pike teeth. It is the toothy fishing object number one in the thickets of grass, so it is advisable and even necessary to use metal leashes. In my experience, a string is the best option. Firstly, reliability, and secondly, the absence of superfluous elements in the form of swivels and fasteners that could collect various garbage in the water. The length of such a leash, in most cases, is from 25 cm to 35 cm. Everything is simple and effective.

Postings, how to animate lures?

All actions with baits during posting are performed smoothly, without rushing. Silicone on offset with loading should move as slowly as possible through the thickness of the vegetation, so that the predator would have enough time to attack. The bites in the grass are very sharp and strong, apparently limited space makes her attack the baits so briskly, just the moment that she is very limited in maneuverability, and does not want to miss out on the prey that appears sharply in sight. Uniform wiring is the basic option from which to start. Various twitches, smooth pulls and sharp jerks often provoke a predator. Much attention should be paid to the rare "windows" in the vegetation, holding and playing bait in them as long as possible. Also, the wiring can be performed in a wave-like manner, when the bait either rises to the surface, then sinks to the bottom, while the cord must always be kept in tension – bites can follow at any time. And just as often, especially in the heat, the pike attacks the bait directly from the surface, grabbing it during the splashdown phase.

P.S. It is clear that the implementation of bites suffers a little, but not critical. Gatherings and idle contacts with fish are always present, there is no escape from this. But the big hook reliably holds the fish after cutting. And, in general, such fishing turns out to be very spectacular – emotions at such moments fall over the edge! I’m sure you have already noticed water bodies where you can use this equipment of silicone baits – be sure to try it in practice and the result will pleasantly surprise you!
