For beginner anglers, the question often arises: "In which cases is it better to use a monofilament, and in which cases – a braid and what is its advantage?" No matter what they say, the overwhelming majority of Russian spinning players are still familiar with superfleshes made of polyethylene fibers only by sight or by hearsay. And they catch mainly on monolesk. For good reason, this is a rather high price for braids with a low cost of living. Therefore, let us mainly deal with the advantages and disadvantages of those and other forests. I must immediately note that not all multi-fiber fishing lines can be called braided in the strict sense of the word. Not so recent developments, for example, of such well-known companies as Berkley or Spiderwire, are represented by fishing lines made of many finest longitudinally arranged polyethylene fibers fused into one slightly twisted fiber.
New Fusion and Fire line have high strength and practically do not stretch under load. But on this their resemblance to the classic braids ends. Unlike the latter, fused-fiber braided fishing lines are tougher, their surface is smoother. They get less tangled, “repel” the dirt, allow you to throw the bait further and make a short operational sweep even at a considerable distance. Do I have my favorite braids? Now my favorite Whiplash pro braid. It practically does not depreciate when cutting and fighting. Therefore, if I catch perch or grayling, fish with weak lips, then I try to do very weak hooking or not hooking at all. Otherwise, after a sharp hook, the upper lip of the fish often remains on the hook. And this is not only inhumane, but also criminal.
Practice shows that when fishing, for example, on jig baits, especially at a depth and a considerable distance from the coast, success largely depends on how reliably the spinning player feels the game of bait in the bottom layers of water. And here low-stretch or zero stretch fishing lines out of competition. In addition, they allow you to respond more quickly even to subtle bite with a short wrist movement of the hand. And this is impossible to do using traditional monofilaments, all the more soft (elastic). As for the high prices of braided fishing lines, then, taking into account their durability, prices are, in my opinion, within reasonable limits. It’s better to overpay for quality than after 2-3 intensive fishing trips to completely replace regular monofilament. However, $ 15-20 is not such a steep price by modern standards.
In general, the main advantage of braids over monofilaments is the following: extremely low extensibility and due to this extremely high sensitivity to bites. But this advantage for an inexperienced spinning player may be a disadvantage. If you are accustomed to monofilament and strongly hooked when the clutch is fully tightened, in the case of a braid you can get a rod or reel breakage as a result of such actions. Therefore, the first requirement is to always use a coil with a clearly adjusted brake. And, of course, in no case do not try to release the bait with a dead hook with the help of sharp and strong jerks with a fishing rod.
In my opinion, the Fire line is a super-fishing line that has no equal in the world. Russian fishermen, dreaming of an ideal fishing line with very high strength and maximum sensitivity, were already able to see this. The American company Berkley has mastered the release of the new Fire line XDS braided fishing line, in which micro Dyneema fibers are not twisted and wrapped, but only slightly twisted and sintered using special technology. What are the advantages of the new braid?
1. As you know, when fishing with spinning, and when fishing with carp, too, very long casts are often required. If your braid in the cross section is flat or alternates with round, then flat sections, casting the bait far away is problematic, especially in headwinds or crosswinds. In addition, such cords strongly sail over the course, which does not allow for a high-quality hooking. Even if such fishing lines have high strength, loose weaving and a flattened section of them, as practice shows, are a very significant drawback. Berkeley’s new multi-fiber line is devoid of these drawbacks. Fire line XDS is the most successful version of wicker lines. It has a perfectly round cross section throughout the unwinding and, most importantly, does not flatten, passing through the rings, even under extreme loads during fishing.
2. The modern technology of sintering microfibers is also good because the cord is dense and smooth. In this sense, it is no secret to anyone that the uneven surface and the loose texture of the old braided cords lead to their rather rapid failure during operation. After contact with underwater obstacles in the form of stones, shells, etc. loose fishing line quickly shagged, lost its strength, did not provide the required casting range, had the ability to collect dirt and freeze in frost.
All this does not threaten you when using new Berkley line. With them you will catch both in fresh and salty sea water; they are inert to water pollution and have a stable color.
3. Tests of the Fire line XDS fishing line for breaking load and knot strength showed that this is the most powerful fishing line in the world today.
In addition to the Fire line XDS, Berkley offers anglers some more new products – modifications of the famous fishing line. This is primarily the braids of thinner sections. Using them, you will perfectly feel the bait in the depths, where the monofilament works worse. Not susceptible to stretching, braids allow the angler to do instant stripping. And even without it, the hook easily sticks into the mouth of the predator at the time of bite. The diameter of the braids is 0.10 mm, the color is gray and fluorescent green, the breaking load is 3.6 kg, the unwinding in coils of 110 m.
As for the color palette, a new pink fire line appeared on the Russian fishing market. Its main feature is that in water it becomes invisible fishing line. But due to what this is achieved, the company does not disclose the secret. The thickness of the fishing line is 0.17 mm, the test is 10.2 kg. The disadvantages of braids should be attributed primarily to their opacity, which often negatively affects the fishing of cautious riding fish.
