Catching ide in open water. Part 2

Catching ide in open waterOn many quiet rivers in central Russia, local anglers catch a handsome silver man with bright raspberry fins on steamed peas. But this nozzle is mainly summer, but spring ide prefers fresh dung worm to all delicacies. He loves this gourmet and crayfish. But crayfish, as you know, we are getting smaller. With an abundance of flying insects, ides rise to the surface of the water and arrange real feasts in the morning and evening dawns. When a flock of ides feeds on the surface, you will not hear loud bursts. These are usually boiling breakers.

For ides weighing less than 500 grams, dragonflies, horseflies, grasshoppers, flying ants, butterflies, as well as caterpillars and other larvae that somehow appear on the surface of the water, become habitual prey during this period. Solid ides prefer more significant food: frogs, locusts, large beetles, molting crayfish, and with the disappearance of insects, they switch to feeding on fry (mainly carp fish). In general, ide can be safely attributed to omnivorous fish. But he does not display predatory inclinations in relation to his own kind as clearly as, say, an asp or even a chub.

The ide fishing gear should correspond to the fishing season and the “inclinations” of this fish, depending on local conditions. In the spring before and after floods on small rivers, it is most convenient to catch ides with a fly-fishing rod with a length of 4-6 m. They are caught mainly from the shore and into the wade in parts of the river with a weak or moderate current. Moving along the shore up or downstream (the second option is preferable), the fisherman carefully examines the whales, calm quiet places. He also tries to catch on the border of fast and slow currents. At a fishing depth of up to 1 meter, the float, of course, should be inconspicuous, and the rigging should be mounted in such a way as to not alert the cautious fish. Of the nozzles at the beginning of the open water season, small dung worms, large bloodworms, maggot, caddis larvae are most often used.

On larger rivers, in the case when the ides are kept away from the coast, in calm areas, match tackle, which allows fishing with long casts, helps the fisherman. In this case, it is best to use a sliding self-float float with a bright antenna. By removing or adding the number of washers, you can adjust the float loading so that even a careful bite of the ide does not go unnoticed. But in fact, on medium and large rivers, ide is best to catch wiring from a boat. This is a classic option. In this case, before you anchor the boat, you need to find or know not only a fishing spot, but also the corresponding depth (usually 1.5-2 m), and a flat clay or pebble-sandy bottom. On the Oka River, for example, local fishermen do not anchor the boat, but tie it to a stake that was previously driven into the bottom soil, which, after fishing, must be removed and taken ashore. The boat is located sideways across the stream.

When fishing, the wiring must always be kept in hand. Therefore, it should be light, have flow rings and a reel, with which the fishing line would move freely, carried away by the movement of the float downstream. In my opinion, match rods 4-4.5 meters long and light coils of the “wire” and “Nevskaya” types on ball bearings are most suitable for this. The float is surrounded taking into account the depth at the place of fishing and the strength of the current. Having scattered the balls of bait, having prepared the tackle, after a short break, they begin to stitch. The fishing technique consists in the fact that the fisherman, by etching the fishing line, releases the float to the desired distance, no more than a meter below the bait, after which (at the end of his swim) they make a control hook. Often, an ide takes it at the very moment when the float stops, and the hook with the nozzle by inertia rises somewhat from the bottom. If the bottom is uneven, you have to let the nozzle slightly higher than it. Otherwise, when hitting, the float will show false bites.

The stock located on the main fishing line 30-50 cm below the main sinker in the form of a set of pellets, pulls the fishing line in a straight line. While the leash with the attachment on the hook, due to the force of the current, it goes ahead of the sinkers. With an active bite, I put a leash with a length of 15-20 cm (“loop to loop” connection), with careful biting, I have to increase its length. But then weak bites can go unnoticed. In some cases, for example, when fishing on channels, a half-boat is more effective. During the spawning course of the ide and rolling it out of small rivers, it is necessary to take into account the daily regime of its nutrition. As far as I was convinced, the best hours of fishing fall in the early morning – from dawn to 9-10 hours, then there should be a break in biting until 14-16 hours. An ide takes badly only with a cold northerly wind and prolonged inclement weather.

Catching on other gear

In summer, the ide is of great interest to fly fishing. And after the insects disappear, fishing continues with spinning. Ultralight is an ideal tool for catching ide. Test rods 2-12 g. Among all the spinning lures, the miniature rotators No. 00-1, perhaps, hold the palm. An ide is especially partial to fly baubles. The color of the fly is red, yellow, yellow-green, black. Good “ulcer” spinners are produced by such well-known companies as Myran, Abu Garcia, Yu Zuri, Daiwa and others.

You can catch ides on mini-wobblers, but here problems arise with casting. I caught an ide on the Lower Volga from a pontoon pier, fusing such a wobbler downstream, and only then did the wiring. By the way, wiring, no matter what bait you use, should be slow. Of course, a lot depends on the strength of the current, but nevertheless, on any river there are quiet places where people like to keep ides. In autumn, with a cooling of water, ides slide into pre-bed pits and their nibble gradually subsides. But if warm days are issued, especially during the Indian summer, you can catch this fish with the help of the so-called deep wiring.
