Rhode pods with Karpoviks ceased to amaze anglers not only in the Moscow Region, but also hundreds of kilometers from the capital. If the reservoir is more than 20 years old and has been stocked up with carp in sufficient quantities, then most likely, more than a dozen of these fish of very impressive size live in it. Sometimes they can even be seen when they jump out, and then crash into the water with noise. After such a spectacle, fishermen begin to knead baits, pour attractants into them and come up with the most exquisite nozzles in the hope of a powerful bite. But they are not such simpletons, these monsters, otherwise they would not have pulled up to 15, 20, or even more kilograms. Like many others, I also cherished the dream of holding a bronze fish in my hands. But as a spinning player, I did not want to buy mountains of baits, dozens of rigs, bags of boilies, electronic signaling devices, carp rods and the same rod-pods. I wanted to get by with a little blood.
The first step was to find a reservoir where large carp is found in sufficient quantities. Unfortunately, all the ponds and lakes I know of were unsuitable: large fish were knocked out in them by networkers and electric rods. So, we must rely on the reservoir, which is stocked and guarded, that is, on a payer. In my area, near the city of Gagarin, there are several payers, I chose one of the oldest ponds with a purely symbolic fee. She is like that, because it’s quite difficult to catch carp there. In any case, the capture of fish for a couple of kilos causes a real sensation. Moreover, the local carp is more like a common carp: the body is runny and low. If he takes light gear, he breaks off the fishing line and destroys the rods of the unlucky floaters and donors.
I did not have to rack my brains on how to catch for a long time – the fish itself prompted. Horsetail and water lilies grow along the shore of the pond. From time to time, powerful bursts are heard in them, and in calm weather you can see how the carp, moving apart the horsetails, move in search of food. Sometimes it begins to rummage, raising such bubbles that they resemble a small underwater geyser. For the first time I became acquainted with the nature of the local carp in the following circumstances. My partner and I decided to sit with the float on the evening dawn when the fish visits the horsetails. During the evening I had four bites. After the first leash 0.2 mm lasted three seconds. After the second carp, a good bunch of horsetail mowed the fishing line and left, leaving an impressive breaker on the surface. After that, a break came, but when the sun went down over the edge of the forest, the carps moved to my rigs on a wide front.
I put a float with a firefly on one of the swoops, the second float was barely visible. At that moment, when the fish — and the horsetail said it smelled “ten,” came up to the fishing rod with a firefly and I, holding back a shiver, was ready to hook at any moment, the second fishing rod, lying quietly on the slingshot, suddenly squeezed the tip of the water and abruptly rushed to the side. I managed to hook, although this, apparently, was not required. He even managed to hold it for a while, but the carp turned the fishing line by the grass, pulled it – and was like this: the Owner hook was bent. Turning my head to a quiet splash, I saw that the float with the firefly had disappeared, and the second fishing rod was floating about a meter and a half from the shore – not to reach. Nearby was a boat on which I cleared a place for casting. He rushed in pursuit of the runaway fishing rod, but it darted off at such a speed that a plume of splashes rose behind the bottom plug.
A comrade laughed wildly on the shore. It seems that a six-meter swing with a 0.2 mm leash is not the best tackle for large fish. Making rare quiet strokes so as not to frighten the thief, I still caught up with the rod. Taking it in my hand, I immediately realized: if I had grabbed it on the shore, I would have had to tight. Karp tried to jerk along the grass with sharp jerks, but he apparently realized that it was too difficult to drag a boat, and with one powerful jerk he went into horsetails. Moreover, in such a thick spot that it would hardly have been possible to pull it out by force, given the thickness of the leash. After ten minutes of boating, I’ve been standing for about five minutes, watching how a float with a firefly rises above the water, then disappears in horsetails. Judging by the movement of the grass, the fish was about a meter away — there was no way to do without landing net, which remained on the shore near the laughing Sergey. I decide on a risky maneuver: I put a fishing rod on the water, quickly swim up to the shore and pick up a partner along with the landing net.
We approach the gear. Grass sways – not down. But how to take carp, it is not clear. Raising it slightly to the surface, I see a broad back and a slowly moving huge tail fin. Cautiously trying to draw a landing net, but horsetail interferes. And the next moment we are surrounded by a fountain of cold splashes … We’re going home under the impression … It’s not a pity for the departed carp. Although, if the fishing line was thicker, everything could have ended differently. Having experienced the power of a bronze monster, I decided to somewhat increase the tackle. He took a soft cord 0.19 mm, a large hook Gamakatsu with a direct bend, a weight of 0.7 g and put it all on a 7-meter long DreamFish Air Swish, equipped with a Shimano Super GT 1000 reel, taken from an ancient light kit. As a bite signaling device – a side nod.
To get a carp walking in the grass by the seven is real even from the shore, but I decided that the boat would give more opportunities for fighting. However, it quickly became clear that almost all sounds frighten carp: not only knocks and splashing, but even the rustling sound of a boat swinging lightly. The frightened fish leaves, and again it is possible to approach it only after waiting a while. Therefore, from a boat you can catch only in calm, when a wave does not splash on board. But on the boat you can go to the leeward, where the wind is much less, and continue fishing. I will not describe a few gatherings due to too small hook. I can only say that there must be at least six grains of corn on the hook: carp is still not a bream and not a roach – it is more attracted to the bulky nozzle.
The following weekend, in the early morning, I was in a pond. Full calm – the weather is beautiful for nodding. I noticed the first carps in the field of water lilies. Judging by how the leaves of water lilies moved or went under water, it was clearly not kilogram carps that fed on it. Having slightly dispersed the boat, I entered the thickets and froze, watching. The guarded fish also calmed down. Ten minutes passed, I managed to smoke a cigarette. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed how a sheet of water lily a meter from the boat slowly plunged into the water and again surfaced – here it is!
Patience, only patience. The main thing is not to make noise, otherwise you will not see the bite! Carp moves pretty quickly around the boat. Only on the third circle did one bubble appear, the second … a whole bunch of bubbles! Quickly lower the nozzle a meter, then very slowly another half meter. Corn goes to the bottom, and I begin to slowly raise it. The bite of a carp on a nod is very short. For just a second and a half, he presses the gatehouse down and immediately throws the nozzle, apparently sensing the cord. I tried to leave the nozzle and not hook. After the fish touched the nozzle, there will definitely not be a repeat, and the guarded carp will go to clean water. The only way to skip a bite is to mix it up. It happens that when you lower the nozzle, it lies directly on the fish and the gatehouse begins to move – you hook, and the carp abruptly leaves, guarding their comrades.
This time, caution changed the carp. After cutting, the water lilies come to life and the cord with a squeal leaves on the rings. Rybina pushes grass with one jerk to clear water and rises to the surface. Having decided that the carp has calmed down a bit, I try to pull the fishing line a bit to remove it from the water lilies, but the carp again makes a jerk, stronger than the first. My poor "thousand-strong" squeals and hands over the fishing line with such speed that the inscription "Shimano" merges into a black stripe. I begin to squeeze the spool with my fingers, gradually loading the rod. Reception succeeds, and after a couple of minutes the fish again emerges from the water lilies. Crown revolution around the grass – and the carp stood, barely moving its tail. Gathering several knees of the rod, I release a meter stuck in water lilies a meter long, and when the fish appears nearby, I carefully start the landing net. To do all this alone, serious plastic is required. Finally, I manage to send the trophy to the landing net. All!
It looks like five kilograms in the carp, maybe a little more, but I'm still happy because I got my way. The method works, but requires fixing. And I go to another spot of horsetail, where I catch a second handsome man, also a little more than five kilograms in weight. Then there were a few more bites of more powerful fish, but I was in a hurry to hook and as a result scared away the whole herd. Well, okay – I didn’t come for meat. I look forward to next weekend: suddenly the treasured “ten” will nevertheless enter my big black landing net …
