Bait for bream

Bait for breamThe main drawback of ready-made bream (as, indeed, of all others) baits is that the angler is forced to take the manufacturer’s word for word, having no idea about the specific components of the package contents. You can purchase a universal all-weather bait for bream, but it will not work in late autumn, because in the country where it is made, there is never weather with an air temperature below + 10 degrees. And this is very significant. In addition, in addition to the dry mix, it’s still better for you to add bloodworms, maggots or freshly prepared fresh plant components to it.

It also happens that imported bait, from which the Western European bream literally whims, is completely unsuitable in the reservoirs of central Russia. Why? I would explain this “misunderstanding” primarily by the fact that over the past decades we have been diligently feeding this fish with millet porridge and bloodworms. And by no means corn, biscuit flour, boilies and other “foreign” delicacies. Fishes in each particular body of water get used to and, without fear, eat the food that is available here. The habit, as they say, is given to them from above.

A bream is a pronounced deep-sea fish that rarely rises to the surface or walks in the water column. It feeds mainly from the bottom, therefore, bait and nozzle should also be at the bottom. When mixing the bait, it is necessary to achieve the desired consistency in order to sculpt balls that will not break into water or disintegrate in its thickness, but will fall apart only after reaching the bottom. This requirement, however, to a lesser extent applies to places not too deep and when the feed particles are not drifted by the current. This usually happens when fishing on lakes and reservoirs. When fishing on rivers, bait must include weighting components – clay, river sand or aquarium gravel.

The basis of bream bait are components of animal and vegetable origin. Usually it is a small bloodworm, maggot, chopped worms, mormysh (often in Siberia). As well as millet, Hercules flakes, bran, semolina, bread crumbs wheat and corn crackers. As flavoring and aromatic additives, hemp and flax grains, sunflower seeds, potatoes, peas, lentils, anise, coriander, lemon balm, dill, and garlic are introduced into the mixture. It is important to remember that if you are fishing on plant tips, there should be more plant components in the bait, and, conversely, when hunting for a large bream, larger feed particles are preferred.

I had such a case on one reservoir, when for two days I caught an exclusively medium sized bait on a standard store medium-sized bait. When the next night he threw half a dozen rather large balls at the place of catching – clay, steamed buckwheat, fresh hemp cake, the result was stunning. During the morning dawn, I managed to take several bream, the largest of which pulled 2.5 kg, and the smallest – 1.2 kg.
