For zander in early spring

For zander in early springPike perch in ice time, as a rule, pecks very well. And when the most brave fishermen still try their luck on ice, we are in a hurry to skim the cream off the rivers that have been rested during the winter and have not yet been knocked out, although this happiness does not last long. As if by clicking, as if knowing the timing of the spring spawning ban, the pike perch perfectly begins to observe it. His bite – in this period it is not even luck, but an accident. Of course, the spring course of the feed base has a great influence on this level of activity, and if the pike perch is able to feel hungry and at some point is hungry, then at that time he can simply open his mouth and hammer it to this dump. wonderful fish with the taste of cucumber. All this disgrace lasts almost until mid-June, and only then should you try to look for a toothy one.

Season preparation

During this period, with the permission to say, inveterate dzhigoviks, having already felt the first few bites, begin active preparation for the upcoming season. This is a very difficult and, it must be said, quite expensive. It would seem that not Japanese wobblers throw 1,500 into the water, but foam rubber and silicone baits are not of the highest class. Of the consumables, only hooks, fasteners and long-eared loads with jig heads, high-quality types of which can now easily be found in any fishing store for quite reasonable money. But whoever thinks so, probably just spends little time on complex sections of large rivers. Experienced fishermen are well aware of the huge amount of cord, lures, clasps and hooks that will always remain at the bottom of the river. After all, twenty or thirty torn lures for fishing is far from the limit, but rather a constant of ordinary jig fishing on rivers with a complex underwater relief!

Of course, with experience, you can significantly minimize the number of cliffs by catching on a certain section of the river every day, because sooner or later you will imagine the underwater space better than even with an echo sounder and structure scanner, but sooner or later you will want to explore new places, new fishing areas, and then, be sure, you will come off to the fullest in every sense of the word! And that is why you need to be very rational in choosing gear and lures for jigging.

Experience gained

This season, I have already rethought some points, and perhaps the main thing will be to avoid expensive cords. I already tried almost everything, and I can’t say that the use of high-quality cords does not give my results. Of course, it does, but I had one fishing last season, during which 130 meters of a brand new expensive cord simply left off. The case, of course, is an isolated one, the place was new, but nevertheless a similar expenditure of the cord is simply unacceptable and can entail significant costs in the fishing budget that has already suffered from the crisis.

The main working braid, of course, will be a four-core cord with its inherent abrasion resistance. Most coastal areas in the city are replete with various remnants of submarine cables (especially at ship moorings) through which baits constantly have to be dragged. It’s far from uncommon when it is under such ropes that pike perch is standing, so you need to literally crawl the metal ropes with a cord, holding the bait in place to get the coveted bite.

Optimal choice

In the upcoming season, I chose for myself two experimental four-core cords: Power Phantom RAPTOR # 1,2 and Power Phantom PE4 # 1,2. In terms of the weaving structure, the cords are almost identical, except that PE4 feels a little softer. The choice of these cords is optimal due to their performance characteristics, which make them quite suitable for jig fishing in the most difficult conditions and affordable due to the price of their working diameters. Eight-core cords should not be forgotten either. Their weaving density and structure make it possible to make further casting with confident control of the bait, even with minimal load. But you still need to use them very purposefully – to kill at least half the reel of the cord by rubbing it on the ropes for fishing is not a great pleasure, but if you approach it deliberately and build a separate fishing so that you work exclusively with long casts and long edges, then the use of eight-strand braids is justified.

Thin cords and its proper winding

When working over long distances, sometimes you have to neglect strength and use cords of thinner diameters, such as, for example, Power Phantom SPIDER # 1. Winding such braids is also a very important aspect. Of course, you should wind under the very edge and under a significant load. In the process of fishing, anyway, a wet cord will sit down, and some of it will leave on cliffs. With coils, too, you should not grind, 3500 according to Daiwa classification and from 4000 according to Shimano, I consider it optimal. And even with such heavy coils it will not be so convenient to carry out explosions and some other special manipulations with the rod, but it will give you those treasured meters of advantage over a long distance.

How to expand opportunities

As for spinning rods and lures, here I also adhere to the position of separation of sets relative to the place of fishing. It used to be to me somehow it didn’t matter, I took a universal stick in the area of three meters and catch it in any conditions, but with experience comes an understanding of how you can expand your capabilities using highly specialized kits. An easy and sonorous spinning rod with a length of about 2.7 m (for me this is Maximus Ultimatum with a test of up to 35 g) will simply be nice and without tension to carry out all kinds of jerking wiring or drawing, which often dramatically affects the result. With a long-range kit from 3 to 3.2 m (I have High Energy 3 m with a test up to 56 g) it will be much more comfortable to control the bait over a long distance, this is especially noticeable in the wind when you need to correctly control the blown arc of the cord.

The bait also has a certain distinction. The undisputed leader in range is the foam rubber. Only vabiks or narrow silicone baits of the octopus type, similar in design, can compete with her. But their equipment implies the use of open doubles, which when fishing in "strong" places is not entirely justified, while a foam rubber with pressed hooks is much better in avoiding all kinds of hooks.

At the end of last season for jerking postings, I began to actively use various silicone "krakozyabry" that are not amenable to literary description, as well as weak from LureMax, and modified foam rubber products that do not have their own game. I hope to continue this interesting practice this year. Honestly, over time, standard jig wiring (two turns, pause) begins to bother, although, of course, it confidently takes first place in frequency of use. But when you make small jerks or dragging in the coastal zone, and after biting you need to wait a moment before cutting to give edible rubber to “chew” pike perch, these are completely different feelings!
