Carp fishing in open water. Part 1

Carp fishing in open water. Part 1Some anglers are convinced that the carp is a fighter, but the carp is something like a “fattened pig”. Is it so? I think in this case we are dealing with the opinion of those who have never fought with respectable carp. Most often, it can be found in fairly deep sections of the reservoir, usually with a muddy bottom and water thickets. How thermophilic fish prefers to lead an active lifestyle in the summer. But this does not mean that carp cannot be caught in other seasons. He pecks both in the spring, and in the fall, and even when fishing from ice. The course, the more powerful, is contraindicated for him. In summer, carp often rises in the upper layers of the water, and then it can be caught on floating baits. The location of carps can also be found by the characteristic offshoots of this fish. At the same time, carps are very cautious and distrustful, therefore, during fishing, you need to observe silence and try to move less along the coast.

CATTLE FISHING RODS

A lot has been written about fishing carp for match and bottom gear. However, in some ponds you can catch carp and fly-fishing rods. On many carp ponds, fishing from a boat is prohibited, therefore, we will mainly consider the main features of shore fishing. In this case, reel tackle is preferable in those places where medium-sized carp feed at a distance of more than 10-15 m from the edge of the water and, of course, require long casts, as well as when large carps fall in the middle of “undershots”. The pond should be well known, especially the topography of the bottom. Interesting areas are usually considered the outer edges of the coastal aquatic vegetation, followed by a dump in depth. Here, in the presence of shelters – underwater snags, stones, bottom irregularities – often pass carp "paths". It is important to look for fish also taking into account the weather, time of day.

With cooling water, carp activity decreases sharply. Therefore, one of the main conditions for successful fishing is a suitable water temperature. Usually in the range from + 7C to + 18C. If at night large individuals can go to the coastal zone, where there is more food, then during the day they try to stay and eat at a depth, far from the coast, especially in “noisy” water bodies. Ponds in central Russia are freed from ice, usually in the second half of April. For some time after this, the carp does not show signs of life, since the water in the pits where he hibernated remains still quite cold.

At the same time, the peculiarity of low-flowing water bodies is that, although slowly, but with the heating of the shallows, the near-bottom deep-water layers also become warm. Instances weighing up to a kilogram come out of a half-nap earlier. And they start spawning earlier. If at the height of summer carps gravitate towards the shady sections of the reservoir, then before spawning and immediately after it it is more perspective to look for them in places well heated by the sun. When fishing from the shore with a float rod, I use a depth gauge of my own design, which almost silently enters the water when casting and perfectly protects the hook from possible hooks to determine the depth of descent and “feel” the bottom topography.

With blind snap

Catching carp with a fishing rod with a dull snap is advisable, first of all, in those fish and water bodies where fish have not yet reached a solid weight. However, for a fee, you can try your luck here. This tackle, as a rule, turns out to be the most effective even where carp, crucian carp and other cyprinids are taken alternately. I cannot brag of especially large carps (scaly, mirror, naked) caught by me on a float "deaf" tackle. The most record of them weighing 2.2 kg. Tektan fishing line with a diameter of 0.18 mm and a leash of 0.16 mm allowed to tire and bring him into the net. But this was already after, at the beginning of my practice, several carps jokingly broke the leashes, designed primarily for catching crucian carp. Having been defeated, I came to the conclusion that the element of reliability is the first thing that any carp tackle should be different from, and even more so, float gear with blank equipment.

Small carp can be caught with rods made of various materials. I opted for carbon-fiber telescopic models 5-7 m long with a combined upper knee, hollow in the lower part and solid in the upper part (the upper part of the knee is glued to the lower). The minimum tip thickness is 1.5-2 mm. Carbon fiber rods of leading world companies are distinguished primarily by their lightness and strength. As an example, we can cite the weight characteristics of the most popular five-meter company Eurostar: fiberglass – 430 g, carbon fiber – 170 g. As you can see, the difference is very significant. I attach the main fishing line to the rod using the well-known fastener made of stainless steel wire. When removing the fish from the hook, the rod is placed on the stands.

The young carp is less cautious than the "large". Nevertheless, all accessories must be harmoniously combined. Now on sale there is a wide selection of monofilny and multi-fiber lines. I use multifibre as a lead sometimes. Most modern foreign monofilaments are highly durable. Let's say the 0.16th can withstand a weight of about 3 kg. This is enough to cope with a medium-sized carp. Unfortunately, the stronger the fishing line, the harder and worse it cushions under load. On the other hand, the larger its diameter (real, and not the one indicated on the coil), the stronger it sails in a crosswind. With such a fishing line, you cannot use a light sensitive float even with a weak wind – in this case you will need heavier equipment. In general, when fishing with deaf float gear, it is important to take into account the weather conditions. As a rule, at my disposal there are always two options for snap-ins.

The first. For fishing in calm weather. Fishing line with a diameter of 0.16 mm, a leash – 0.14 mm. Stick type float with a carrying capacity of up to 1 g. The body color of the float is green (for fishing in the reeds), blue (in clear weather) and light brown or gray (with a cloudy sky). Lead of soft monofilament (length about 20 cm). A set of pellets of soft lead is located above the leash, starting from the point of attachment with the main fishing line in a loop-to-loop fashion. Hook No. 10-13, depending on the size and type of nozzle.
Second. For fishing in windy weather. The main fishing line is sinking, soft, with a diameter of 0.17-0.20 mm. The leash is thinner or from a "braid" with a diameter of 0.07-0.09 mm. Its color should be combined with the color of the bottom. Due to the fact that all pellets are shifted down, the leash with a hook and a nozzle lies motionless at the bottom, which is very important when fishing for carp. In this case, I put the float drop-shaped with a long keel and a carrying capacity of 1.5-2 g.
For various lighting conditions it’s nice to have removable nozzles for the antenna of the float, made of silicone tubes or solid foam. Their color is black, white, red or orange (fluo). White color, for example, is clearly distinguishable at dusk and in shadow areas, and a black antenna stands out clearly on the bright surface of the water.

TASTES COULD NOT BE DISCUSSED

In our reservoirs, rare fishermen feed the carps with boilies, corn, or, say, throw a liter volume of maggot into a place outlined for fishing using a slingshot. Carp, on the other hand, is one of those cautious fish that needs some time, if not a long one, to get used to the proposed food. In particular, I drew attention to the fact that carps of fishery ponds are most likely to use granular compound feed, which they constantly feed here. Therefore, when choosing a bait, it’s good to find out from the “regulars” in a particular pond what the local carp will like. The same goes for nozzles. Arriving at an unfamiliar pond with a single nozzle, for example, with corn, you can sit all day without biting, while your neighbor on other nozzles – a worm, semolina, pearl barley or maggot – will drag weighty fat carps.
