Recently, my friends and I decided to visit one pond. The purpose of our trip was spinning. The main fish that we were going to hunt for was a rather exotic fish, at least for our area – telapia, or telapia, from the Latin Telapia.
How did we get it:
In our region, she appeared last year with the help of a person. In the reservoir, which is designed to cool the nuclear reactor, everywhere there is a mustard – small weedy fish, a family of cyprinids. When it became quite a lot in the reservoir, when taking water, the protective net was completely hammered onto the cooler … The management of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant decided to take measures. In order to reduce the population of mustard, it was decided to launch telapia into the reservoir.
What kind of telapia is this?
It is generally accepted that its main habitat is Asia (where its distribution occurs at most an hour of water bodies) and completely throughout Africa. But if you stroll through the pages of the Internet, its references go back to ancient Egypt. The very concept of TELAPIA is generalized, in fact it is a family of cichlids, and telapium there is a decent number of subspecies that are divided into omnivores and which feed on plant plankton. Our new inhabitant belongs to the omnivorous and the exact name is Mozambian Telapia. This beautiful specimen has gray scales, something reminiscent of crucian carp scales and side vertical dark stripes. Her mouth is small, inside there are small teeth. Visually very similar to crucian carp, the mouth current is smaller and the teeth too. The habitat is both water bodies with fresh water and with salt, but a certain percentage of salt in water is 45 ‰. Usually it grows to 300 g and lives no more than 7 years.
Now how we caught him:
Early in the morning we did not plan to go. They gathered calmly and at about 10.00 we were there. At first we talked with the fishermen, asked a little about what and how. By the way, we came to this reservoir for the first time. From our colleagues, we learned that it is better to look for it not on a stone bottom. Immediately moved, found a collection of local patrons of the fishermen and saw how they fished for the Donks.
We were not far away, gathered spinning rods and began to make the first casts. Initially, we did not succeed in catching, we fix pleasant bites, but it was not possible to cut through. Only 30-40 minutes were caught in one fish.
We begin to move along the coast, look for places of approaches and try to understand how to catch it. I went to the front and came across a point. The bottom is not uniform, sometimes isolated stones, but mostly sand. Without bottom debris, as usual, nowhere ..
At first we tried to catch on a makeshift jar cut from the remains of silicone baits, on which a part was bitten off by striped robbers. But then I began to experiment. He began to put different mormyshki up to 1.3 g. A side wind blows in excess of light weight; It was more adequate to work from 0.6 g and above. The old-fashioned method of selecting baits was able to find the right ones. Engine oil worked well, shortened worms, caramel, sometimes acid, but relatively rarely. Then we decided to try new worms from Takedo and they went straight in quite well. I cut the bait in half, first the tail goes into action, then the front part, in accordance with when the first part is already completely consumed.
When the wind calmed down a bit, we reduced the weight. Mormyshka started to put 0.25 g, with thinner baits a little longer than the mormyshka itself (this is partly a slicing again). The result surprised us. Cast, 3-4 times rocked the bait, pause immediately the fish. The main nuance was that it was not necessary to let the bait go to the bottom, try to play in the thicker and be sure to pause.
From time to time we made samples to catch at 1.5-2 g from longer distances, the effect was weak. Most often there were 2-3 bites and that’s all, the catch was rare.
Telapia behaves quite unusual. At the pause, the bite is stronger than that of the perch of the appropriate size, the roach, by the way, also takes the mormyshka an order of magnitude weaker. A couple of seconds of inactivity and begins to hit on the sides. Most often comes to the surface and fighting takes place on the waves. More rarely, it leaves the surface in the water column.
In conclusion, I want to say that fishing itself is more exotic than the species of fish that has long been familiar to us, especially the first time. An interesting fighting, more powerful than biting, and the fish themselves look at it and the eye rejoices.
Was with a spinning rod up to 5 g Maximus Pulse 732SUL, reel – Black Side Axiom 2000FD, with Nanofil 0.02 from Berkley wound. The bait for the most part is slicing, ideal in combination with mormyshka 0.25-0.45 g.
