Good afternoon friends. I want to share my experience in manufacturing knob for a non-inertial coil. Unfortunately, I did not prepare in advance for participating in the competition and writing the article, so this article does not have a couple of detailed photos, but I think in general my idea will be clear. And so, when I discovered a problem with the knob (it was covered with rubber, which later became sticky) I decided to bother and make it myself, remembering that I had a couple of pieces of solid PVC for several years, once, a very long time ago I tried to make it Croatian an egg, a durable material and non-sinking, is actually very interesting in processing. In general, the eyes are afraid and the hands are doing.
We will need:
3. Primer for plastic
4.Tools (hacksaw, knife, file, nail file, 2 toothpicks)
In general, we apply the old knob, circle with a pencil and cut out the shape with a hacksaw for metal, after which we smooth the shape with a clerical knife and make holes for further installation
Two halves of the future knob are ready, each 10 mm thick. To simplify the manufacture of the old knob, we cut off the ears, leaving the part we need in the form of a sleeve and making cutouts inside the new knob for further gluing (here, unfortunately, there are not enough detailed photos).
Next, we paste the sleeve into our design, after which we connect the two halves with super glue and a pair of toothpicks for which holes were made in advance. I admit honestly this was the first experience, so later I realized that the holes can not be made at all, the design glues so well .
The design is ready and now we proceed to the processing and shaping
I did the form by eye and I wanted it, the knob turned out to be more like Dive, but I liked it more.
We cover the finished structure with a primer for plastic, it has good adhesion and wear resistance, once I primed an old ice drill with such a primer over rust and, surprisingly, it stayed without problems for the entire winter season.
Now making sure that the soil is holding well and seeing small irregularities, we take a nail file for manicure and polish the surface to a full gloss, and then cover it with soil again.
Well, that's basically done. Quick, not complicated and cheap.
