Catching ide in open water. Part 1

Catching ide in open waterIde – a beautiful fish in every way. Silver scales, cast in gold, bright red fins and a very decent weight (up to 2-3 kg, and sometimes more) make this representative of cyprinids a worthy and prestigious trophy. It is also noteworthy that, not being a predator in the strict sense of the word, the ide is caught on various tackles, including spinning lures. In our country, the most common in the basins of the Volga, Urals, Don. Unlike the chub, it prefers a moderate course, or even a very weak one. In addition to deep-sea rivers, it lives in reservoirs, flowing lakes, even in small dams. For successful ide catching, first and foremost, you need to know the traditional habitats and be well-versed in the timing and time of fishing.

AFTER ICE WAY

The glorious Russian river Oka is now pretty trampled by fishermen. But there were other times. There were few visiting fishermen, mostly local. After ice drift and water clarification in small rivers, my friend Valery and I went to one of the Oka tributaries to catch ide. At worst, a roach. Most often visited the Kashirka and Besputu rivers. The Oka ide usually spawns in late April – early May, when the water temperature reaches 13-15 degrees Celsius. Before this, a short pre-spawning course begins. And it is important not to miss these few days, when the ide rises upstream, leaving its winter havens. Climbing up the rivers, ides make short stops, during which they eat intensively. A little later, an ide begins to enter the rivers flowing into the Rybinsk reservoir: Ild, Sutka, Rena, Sit, Mologa and others. Repeatedly I came across a very active bite of a Rybinsk ide just a few days after the ice drift.

I recall fishing in the lower reaches of the river Ild. Leaving the Niva by the bridge, we set off in search of a fishing eldorado. In some places, whitish, water-swollen ice solders still remained, but the water was clear enough. Settling down on a high coastal slope among pines and birches, I decided to observe the surface of the river. There was a small bay in front of me, half covered with ice. Full calm, no breeze. But the evening idyll somehow did not please: at least one splash on the river surface! It seems that there is neither a peaceful nor a predatory fish. True, this impression is misleading, because immediately after the ice drift the inhabitants of small rivers do not externally manifest themselves – all the fish are kept in the bottom layers. Evening fishing did not work. Thawed. It was time to go to the village for the night.

The next morning, barely dawn, we dispersed at the exit of the attractive bay and, having uncovered the summer fishing rods, set to fishing. The morning turned out to be quiet, in the coastal birch forest tits echoed loudly, lumps of loose ice settled into the water with noise. Spring always brings purification, it becomes brighter and happier in the soul … But it is time to catch fish. Once again I measured the depth with the help of a sinker-lot to accurately determine the descent. At the initial mark of 1.5-2 m, the current is too strong. Therefore, I had to change the descent, making it about a meter. Now the float gradually drifted almost to the shore, ten meters downstream. And then the first bite. The lightweight stick-type float moved almost imperceptibly to the side.

Cutting – and here it is, the beauty – “sea” roach. Took a bloodworm. I hook a “sandwich” – a maggot with two bloodworms. Casting – and again a bite. This time, not a big ide in my hands. It contains no more than 300 g, but my mood rises. After several unsuccessful cuts, I became convinced that the ide takes too accurately. The reasons could be very different. A thin main line and a yellow leash about 15 cm long were required. Each time at the end of the swim I carefully braked the float. At this time, the leash with the nozzle apparently rested at the bottom, which caused the activity of the fish. Moving nozzle and ide, and roach were taken extremely rarely.

WITH FEEDING

Like any carp fish (with the exception, perhaps, of asp), ide is better to catch with bait. This is especially true not of a passage, but of a sedentary ide. That is, when this fish spawns and begins to eat intensely, gaining weight. For the ide near Moscow and living in the waters of the Meshchersky Territory, I apply the following bait composition. Its basis is wheat and corn breadcrumbs, respectively – 0.5 kg each. Followed by:
Lightly toasted and ground sunflower seeds – 0.3 kg;
Steamed wheat – 0.5 kg;
Canned sweet corn – 0.2 kg;
Cooked peas – 0.2 kg;
Ground Hercules – 0.1 kg;
Chopped earthworms, maggot, forage bloodworm.

When fishing on a current, even a weak one, it is necessary to add ground clay or small fractions of crushed stone to bait for weighting. But sometimes the ide is better suited to “dusty” bait, which when washed off forms a kind of fragrant corridor up to ten meters or more. In this case, the wiring is carried out in the center of the corridor. A cloud of suspension is formed by adding to the bait oat, milk powder and other finely divided ingredients. I never throw prepared bait balls to the catch point right away. It takes at least 15-20 minutes for the components to soak in each other’s smell.

I must say that the spring ide reacts poorly to bait. And, by and large, instead of it you will feed other cyprinids – roach, bream, bream. Another thing is when ides already in mid-June switch to plant foods. At this time, ide ideally catches on steamed wheat and pearl barley, as well as on Hercules flakes. Like roach, he does not refuse from mulberry – these algae grow on the course, covering stones, driftwood and other flooded objects. Fishing is from the bottom, so bait is necessary.

Oka fishermen, for example, arrange special wickers from willow twigs. It turns out a little lull, roaches like to spin in it, and sometimes larger individuals also come to bait. Caught from a boat, wiring. This fishing can be very prey, moreover, along with the ide on a feeding place, bream and scavengers are taken;
