Carp fishing in early autumn

Carp fishing in early autumnIn the courtyard of September, and in large reservoirs, a wide variety of fish is actively caught. What else would seem to wish for complete happiness! But no, no, yes, and sometimes I want to “change the subject” and go to some pond or small lake to calmly catch, for example, crucian carp. Moreover, he pecks during this period not much worse than in the spring. Many people think that nothing special is needed for such fishing: simple tackle, a suitable attachment and a little luck. And so it is: if you are satisfied with the "patch" that they tease everything that you do not put on the hook. But a completely different story – crucian grams for three hundred or more. Here we need a more serious approach.

Depending on the type of reservoir and other conditions, both float gear and a feeder can bring success in catching crucian carp. But in this article I will limit myself to only one way – the classic fly fishing rod. In autumn, crucian carp are taken very carefully, and in these conditions, the advantages of flywheel gear can play a decisive role. Where in the fall are there real chances from the heart to catch crucian carp? To begin with, where there are no such chances. There are none in small and shallow water bodies. The water in them cools quickly, and crucian there ceases its activity early. And crucian carp is rarely large in such reservoirs. It is best to try fishing happiness on more or less large flowing ponds or lakes with rich aquatic vegetation. It’s good if not only crucian carp inhabits there, but also predators: pike or perch “cull” badly the underdevelopers.

Promising at this time of year are the bays of reservoirs and quiet lowland rivers. But I would still give the palm to ponds and lakes. Catching crucian carp in them is very difficult, but what is difficult and requires a certain persistence is always and most interesting. In its most general form, I would describe the classic crucian pond of the middle lane as follows. This is a relatively large channel pond formed by a dam installed on a small river. Its dimensions are 300-400 by 1500-2000 meters. There are many shallow overgrown areas, the average depths rarely exceed two meters, on the channel and in the pre-dam area deeper, three to four meters, and in some places the depth reaches five meters.

The bottom is mostly sandy-clay, but strongly silted areas are also found. Aquatic vegetation is developed unevenly – by curtains and in shallow water. Feed base in the form of shells, bloodworms, caddis flies and so on. And everything would be fine, but only such reservoirs will not remain without attention of fishers for long. The news of another Eldorado spreads quickly, and the lake begins to experience increased fishing pressure. Little crucian is gradually beaten out, and larger ones become scientists and very cautious. One can’t count on easy prey there.

An object

With the advent of autumn, nightly cold weather, with the beginning of the dying of aquatic vegetation, carp has virtually nothing to do in shallow areas. The basis of its nutrition is now made up of various worms and larvae that live in the soil at depths, and small shells. Of course, if a warm day falls, crucian carp can feed in shallow water, but still the optimal depths for fishing in September start from about 1.5 meters. As in summer, medium and large crucian carp rarely bite during the day. The best hours for fishing are from sunrise and hours until eleven in the morning. In the evening, activation of the bite is an hour and a half before sunset and until dark. It happens, however, that crucian fish bite well during the day, but most often this happens at long distances and at great depths when fishing with a feeder or lap-dog.

The lighter the better

The most suitable places for fishing with a fly rod are pre-dam areas, where the depth, as a rule, is from 1.5 to 3 meters. Best if fishing occurs when there is a small breaking wave. In this case, crucian carp can come close to the shore, and because of the coastal turbidity, he will not be afraid of the fisherman. In such cases, a fishing rod with a length of 5 or 6 meters is quite enough. True, crucian carp can hold on to the border of the rising turbidity, and then a more authentic rod may be required – seven meters. However, when the water cools below 13-14 degrees, crucian carp no longer approaches the shore. It shifts to deeper parts of the reservoir, usually rolls closer to the channel. In this case, the fishing distance increases and you have to switch to 8-9 meter swings.

With coarse and heavy tackle, it is simply impossible to notice the careful bites of crucian carp. Therefore, an optimal rod would be a lightweight class of medium-quick action, which allows you to work with light floats and snatch large enough fish. Floats are best used with the so-called sports, with two attachment points, in which the fishing line is fixed with cambrices on the keel, and at the top of the antenna passes through a small ring. Such floats are much more sensitive than sliding or single-point floats. With competent loading, they are capable of transmitting even the most careful bites, and having a low sail, they are well cast and, which is especially important in the fall, lie down on the water almost silently.

In a pond or lake, oblong-shaped floats are preferred. They show good bites to rise, and when biting to dive, they have minimal resistance and do not alarm fish. It is better that the keel of the float is metal. The relatively large weight of the keel makes it possible to use lighter floats, and in addition, makes the float more stable and allows you to catch even in a decent wind. As for the carrying capacity of the floats, here it is necessary to take into account several factors at once: the depth of fishing, the presence of even a weak current, the strength of the wind, the structure and power of the rod and, of course, the activity of the fish in a given period.

However, in any case, you should strive to use the most lightweight snap-ins. For example, depending on weather conditions and the activity of crucian carp, I usually catch with floats with a lifting capacity of 0.3 to 1.5 grams. The distribution of the load on the fishing line is usual for standing water: a chain of sinkers 10-15 cm apart. The only advice is to put a minimum weight in the reserve and a leash of 25-40 cm in length. The main fishing line is 0.12-0.14 in diameter. mm, hanging 0.07-0.10 mm, hooks No. 14-16.

Meals – Disposable

When fishing for crucian carp with a fly rod, it is necessary to feed. 6-8 balls the size of a tennis ball should be thrown into the fishing zone as accurately as possible. Accuracy is very important, because the smaller the area of the stern "carpet", the higher the competition for the approaching crucian and the more often and confidently it will take. Usually, bites begin 20-30 minutes after feeding the place. If after half an hour there are no bites, do not despair and change the place: if there is crucian in the pond and the place is chosen correctly, then sooner or later it will certainly appear.

What I would not advise doing at this time of the year is to feed during fishing. Fish can get scared and move away. And sometimes for good.
